How much does it cost to charter a private plane?
When you have the time and money, it’s worth every penny to be able to charter a private jet. After all, who doesn’t want to fly in style?
But how expensive is it? Flight charters are surprisingly affordable when compared with other forms of luxury travel. For instance, if you wanted to fly first class across the Atlantic or on a world tour, you would be looking at an annual expenditure of $250K per person. However, if you were looking for something similar on a private basis, your annual expenditure would come out as half of that!
key factors to charter a private plane
There are a few key factors that will determine the cost of your private jet:
The type of aircraft. A light jet, mid-sized jet, or heavy jet will all have different hourly rates.
The carriers home base. Unless the aircraft is at the airport you would like to fly out of, the carrier will have to ferry the aircraft in and out.
Your destination. The longer your flight, the more it will cost.
How long you are staying? For a one or two-day trip, the aircraft will likely stay with you and fly back to base after each successful landing of your horizons-to-horizon ride!
For a longer trip, the aircraft will likely bring you to your destination and then go back home, and then back to pick you up again to bring you home

What does it cost to get from here to there on an hourly rate?
The prices vary between $4,000 – $8,000 per hour depending on the aircraft type. Now that hourly rate is dependent on the aircraft performance and type of aircraft used.
For example, a light jet might only be $3,500 per hour, but a heavy jet like a Gulfstream could easily be $7,500 to $8,000 per hour.
Keep in mind that the aircraft may not be based in your origin city and the plane may have to fly in from a nearby city or base. The price for a private jet includes this (many times overlooked) ferry cost, which is a crucial part of the hourly calculations.
OTHER EXTRA FACTORS
The other cost to factor in is the crew. The Captain, Co-Pilot, and Flight Attendants all need to be compensated for their time and expertise.
While there are some empty leg (or one-way) flights available at a discounted rate, these tend not to be as flexible as flying on an hourly basis.
What additional costs are involved when you charter a private plane?
Most charter quotes such as federal excise tax and segment fees (airport/ passenger fees) are included, as well as fuel and de-icing which can be reconciled post-flight.
In-flight amenities can also be purchased separately.
Catering is always provided on a private jet, but the type and quality of food & drink offerings vary depending on the operator.
For example, some might only offer basic snacks and beverages while others will have full gourmet meals prepared by top chefs.
You can also request special catering requests like kosher or gluten-free options if you need them.
Another consideration may be Wi-Fi, which is now available on most aircraft. If it’s not, you can usually request it ahead of time for an additional fee. Some people prefer to bring their own
